The art of lagoon winemaking. On the lands of Marano Lagunare, the Azienda Agricola Ghenda Fausto cultivates its lands as vineyards. Hence the Ghenda wine lines which, thanks to the extraordinary properties of the soil, are scented like the breeze that caresses the vineyards and tasty like the water that surrounds them; a must on our tasting itineraries.
The history of the company begins in Valle Corniol, in the municipality of Marano Lagunare where water prevails over land. Here, in the 1950s the main family activity was fish farming and the vines were grown in the islets adjacent to the Valley. In 1994, when he was very young, Fausto, moved by passion, approached viticulture and converted his family’s arable land into a vineyard, where he gradually replanted the vines of the Valley. In a characteristic lagoon area, in 2012 the old fold was converted into a modern and efficient winery, now home to the company, where typical wines are produced.

The uniqueness and extraordinariness of the territory of Marano Lagunare is expressed by the scent of the lagoon surrounding it. Here, the vines have been cultivated for years and have therefore adapted to the territory, developing strength and resilience to the salinity of the soil. We are talking about clayey soils rich in minerals, allowing to produce original wines with a strong character. Vinification is a process that brings together tradition and technology; for some wine varieties (and also for the production of some white wines), in fact, the so-called “alzata di cappello” technique is still used, that is, brief maceration on the skins until the cap forms. After racking, the must is ready for the inoculation of the selected yeasts, which maximize fermentation regularity and enhance the quality of the wines. Refinement and ageing take place in steel tanks or concrete or oak barrels.
