Rivignano Teor
An itinerary between the Stella river, villas, castles and aquariums
An evocative place linked to the discovery of the real Romeo and Juliet, and characterized by unique and uncontaminated nature of extraordinary beauty.
Villa Ottelio Savorgnan
The villa in Ariis di Rivignano is special because it was the setting of a tragedy that seems to have inspired Shakespeare. After recent careful research, the English professor Cecil Clough came to the conclusion that the true protagonists of the Shakespearian tragedy are the Friulian Lucina Savorgnan, who spent her summer holidays here, and her cousin Luigi Da Porto.
The villa overlooks a bend of the Stella river and is immersed in the “Stella Municipal Park” and in the “Site of Community Importance Risorgive dello Stella”, which is home to interesting specimens of flora and fauna. On the façade of an intense brick red colour, the Savorgnan coat of arms is still present: a silver shield on a black chevron. Furthermore, an Italian terraced garden was created between the Villa and the river, subsequently expanded and modified, and now home to several events.
Stella River
The unique and uncontaminated nature, swampy areas rich in marshes of extraordinary beauty, and the beautiful parks of the Castle of Flambruzzo and Villa Ottelio Savorgnan in Ariis, touched by its waters, make the Stella a river full of charm. Once an important artery for transport and connection between the High and Middle Friulian plains and the sea, but also essential for war strategies, today the Stella is one of the most fascinating rivers in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
Flambruzzo Castle
The Flambruzzo Castle is located in the municipality of Rivignano Teor. Its first historical traces date back to 1258. The castle overlooks the banks of the Stella River and was part of the Water Castles that oversaw trade on the river. The Castle is a perfect location for a wedding.

Ariis Aquarium
One of the main sea life attractions of Friuli Venezia Giulia is undoubtedly the Ariis Aquarium. Here you will find a real museum that houses the fish species of the regional river ecosystem. The aquarium is managed by ETPI Friuli Venezia Giulia (the institution preserving fish population in the region). A river flows in front of the museum, from its source to its mouth: here you can admire a series of landscapes typical of the local mountains, plains and resurgence areas. Outside of the aquarium, however, you will find a marshy area where you can observe both large fish and tiny Mosquitofish.
Mulino di Sterpo – mill
A few kilometers from the municipality of Bertiolo lies Sterpo. The quiet village boasts one of the few original mills in the area, dating back to the eighteenth century, and still operative. The mill is powered by the beloved Stella River which meanders through the fields of the area, offering enchanting landscapes and providing an ideal habitat for the flora and fauna that can be observed by taking a walk in said fields.
Duomo di San Lorenzo
The Cathedral of San Lorenzo Martire is the parish church of Rivignano Teor.
The church of Rivignano became a parish church in 1492. The two churches of Rivignano and Teor were then part of the same parish, and the curate had to reside alternately in one of the two villages. This situation lasted until 1850, year in which Teor became an autonomous parish. At the beginning of the 20th century the ancient medieval church was too narrow to satisfy all the needs of the population, and so in 1903 the local lords donated 2257.50 m² of land for the construction of the new parish church. The current cathedral was built starting in 1907 and was consecrated on December 3rd, 1911.
